GSE Construction ‘breaks new ground’ at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and includes historic LGBT business utilization goal for construction of new Wastewater Reclamation/Water Infrastructure Projects!
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s capital projects procurement department has selected GSE Construction, through a competitive bidding process, to build two of their key wastewater reclamation and water infrastructure projects.
GSE’s approach to building these legacy facilities includes LGBT, Minority, Women, Disabled Veteran and Small business participation. “As a minority-owned business we know how important it is to utilize businesses who represent the communities in which they are built” stated Justin Blickle, GSE’s Alternative Delivery Manager. “The San Luis Obispo and Central Coast are remarkably diverse and our team of contractors for these projects mirrors the community. There was no requirement for us to include LGBT businesses but we’ve been interacting with BuildOUT California over the past several years and we felt it was critically important to include this element of our construction community” he added.

About the Collaborative Design-Build Services for Wastewater Reclamation Project at Cal Poly SLO
The project involves the design and construction of a 0.5 MGD package plant wastewater reclamation facility employing membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology and UV disinfection to produce tertiary treated and disinfected Title 22 reclaimed water to utilize for campus irrigation purposes. Additional project components include lift stations, force mains, a line 120 acre-foot earthen reservoir, a small swine storage tank, and a multi-disciplinary classroom building.
About the Collaborative Design-Build Services for the Water Infrastructure improvement Project
The project will design and construct two new water storage tanks (1.1 MG total) and associated piping above K-1 Parking Lot and demolish existing Reservoir #2. It will design and construct a new Pump House #2 to accommodate the new water storage tanks and demolish the existing pump house. The existing water line connecting the new Pump House #2 and new water storage tanks will be relocated, and Pump House #1 will be remodeled to improve efficiency.
