CPUC Issues Historic Proposed Decision for 1.5% LGBT Utilization Goal!

Today, California Public Utilities Commissioner Cliff Rechtschaffen issued a Proposed Decision which embraces an aspirational utilization goal of 1.5% for LGBT businesses by California-based utilities. Per the data provided by the Utilities this translates to approximately $500M in annual spend with LGBT certified firms. The ruling by Commissioner Rechtschaffen specifically calls out BuildOUT California's advocacy on the matter 15 different times within the 68-page document. We were honored to work with the LGBT Chambers of Commerce from throughout California and the NGLCC on this important initiative.

BuildOUT California is enormously grateful to the many elected officials (both current and former) who stood with us in advocating for the 1.5% goal (https://www.buildoutcalifornia.org/analysis-advocacy-action), and to Commissioner Rechtschaffen and others at the Commission (including Administrative Law Judge DeAngelis) for stepping up to embrace an aspirational goal of 1.5%. This is a huge victory for the LGBTQ/Allied community at the statewide, national, and global level!
