02.26.26: BuildIT's Utility Engagement/Data Center Development National Strategic Planning Session

ree

On Thursday, February 26, 2026, BuildIT will convene nationally recognized subject matter experts and business leaders from major energy and water utilities across the United States, alongside leading general and specialty contractors, consultant firms, and AEC industry stakeholders. This one-day summit, produced by the world’s largest AEC industry association dedicated to sustainable development of LGBT/Allied businesses, will produce a strategic roadmap to update our 20-Year Business Plan and deliver industry-wide recommendations.

Two Focus Areas:

Utility Engagement in a Shifting Policy Landscape

Recent policy shifts have created significant challenges for businesses engaging with utilities, including changes to clean energy initiatives, evolving regulatory frameworks, and increased grid stability concerns. These shifts have disrupted long-term planning and investment strategies, requiring utilities and their business partners to adapt rapidly to new operating realities.

Data Center Development: Infrastructure, Communities, and Resources

Data center development presents complex challenges around energy and water consumption that can strain local resources and infrastructure. Rural communities face particular pressures including limited infrastructure capacity, workforce development needs, and concerns about local impacts—from water supply and well interference to increased housing costs, traffic, and environmental considerations. Balancing economic opportunities with sustainable resource management remains a critical challenge.
