Building the workforce of the future is going to take collaboration: BuildIT and the Northern California Carpenters Union.

It is estimated that by 2030 there is going to be a workforce shortage within the construction industry of the United States of 3 million tradespeople, laborers, iron workers and building trades people.

BuildIT has been honored to work with many key construction industry stakeholders to address this economic challenge – but - we are immensely proud of our growing collaboration with the Northern California Carpenters Union under the leadership of Jay Bradshaw who serves as the Executive Officer of the Union as well as a Commissioner on the California Transportation Commission (CTC). As Executive Officer he represents 38,000 members from 22 Local Unions.  Included in his responsibilities are setting the political agenda, building employer relations, negotiating collective bargaining agreements, and overseeing the training of Journey-level and Apprentice Tradespeople.

This Pre-holiday-week, BuildIT Founders Nick Colina/Anco Iron and Construction, Mick Penn/Swinerton Builders, and Paul Pendergast/President of BuildIT, participated in an in-depth strategic planning session to discuss key areas of our collaboration which includes workforce training, engagement with Carpenter Union Leadership across the US, outreach and engagement and leadership training.

Not only are we honored to work with Mr. Bradshaw but also with Cesar Sanchez, Jason Cuadra, Isaac Davalos, and Nancy Mateu who hold key positions within the Carpenters Union of Northern California. Cesar, Nancy, Jason, and Isaac as also part of the Union’s LGBT Resource Group. Their combined experience and dedication to workforce development where all communities are uplifted is going to be monumental in our efforts.

Looking forward to so many groundbreaking achievements to come from this working group!
